Description/Background:

The Council's tentative adoption of the Mayor's Tentative Budget commences the process of formal Council budget review and establishes the next public hearing date of May 26, 2026 to consider final adoption of the FY 2026-27 Budget, including any amendments to the Mayor's Tentative Budget that the Council directs. While the public hearing to consider final adoption would begin on May 26, 2026 the Council may continue the hearing, through June 23, 2026, until a final budget is formally adopted. The Council may adopt a final budget at any point after the May 26th public hearing.

 

During this item staff will provide the Council with an overview of the Mayor's Tentative Budget including the proposed compensation plan.  More in-depth presentations on the city's individual departmental budgets will be made to the Council later this same evening, then on May 12th and 19th. Any proposed amendments to the Tentative Budget by Council Members may be presented to the Council anytime after May 5th.

 

The full tentative budget document is not attached to this agenda item, but will be provided to the City Council on May

 

Further action to be taken:

As directed in the attached resolution, staff will notice the May 26, 2026 public hearing and facilitate the Council's review of the budget in the intervening weeks.
