Description/Background:

Standard City practice is to offer three months of an an at-will appointed category 1 employee's base salary as a severance in the event of termination without cause. However, the hiring authority can offer up to six months severance with the approval of the City Council. Traditionally, the positions of Chief Administrative Officer and City Attorney have been offered the increased severance as a condition of employment. The current severance with the City Council Executive Director is three months but is also proposed to be authorized up to six months.

 

Fiscal Impact:

No fiscal impact unless there is a termination without cause for the specified positions.

 

Further action to be taken:

Each hiring authority will execute appropriate contracts.
