Description/Background:

On February 16, 2016 the City Council appointed Council Member Nicholl as the Sandy representative to the Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District's Administrative Control Board for a one year term.  This action was in response to an annexation of territory where the waste and recycling services were provided by the District, not Sandy City.  The District serves approximately 82,000 homes including 955 homes in Sandy.

At the time of the appointment, according to the District's Board Clerk, "state statute states an expecation of four years of service on the board."  However, the Council appointed its representative to a one year term.  It is not clear from the original appointment resolution whether Council Member Nicholl's term expired at the end of 2016, or one year from the date her original appointment.  Consequently, the District has requested that Council Member Nicholl be reappointed to contintue her service on their Board.  The attached resolution considers the appointment for January 1 through December 31, 2017.

Recommended Action and/or Suggested Motion:

Recommendation

Adopt Resolution appointing Council Member Kris Coleman-Nicholl to serve as a representative of Sandy City on the Wasatch Front Waste Management and Recycling District for a one year term beginning January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017.
