Agenda Item Title:

Title

Council Member Robinson proposing that the City pursue an energy benchmarking program for all municipal buildings

Body

Presenter:

Council Member Zach Robinson

Body

Description/Background:

Attached to this item is a memo outlining Council Member Robinsons proposal. He has also included a review of the Salt Lake City energy benchmarking program as written by Council Staff, a copy of the SLC ordinance adopting their benchmarking program, a link to the SLC Elevate Buildings website, and an overview of the Energy Star Portfolio Manager used by SLC.  He asks that you review these documents and websites to become more familiar with the energy benchmarking idea.  Assuming the Council sees this as favorable, he asks that you provide your blessing through a vote allowing him to work with the necessary staff to come back with a proposed ordinance for adoption at a later date.

Fiscal Impact:

Unknown

Further action to be taken:

This idea will need to be discussed in more detail with Administration.  Following that discussion I'd like to formalize it through adoption of an ordinance.

Recommended Action and/or Suggested Motion:

Recommendation

Motion to direct Council Member Robinson to continue working with staff, including Administration, on the energy benchmarking of municipal buildings and to approach Council with an ordinance for review at a later date.
