Title

First Reading: Council Member Nicholl proposing the construction of a new Police Department Public Safety Headquarters

Body

Presenter:

Council Member Kris Nicholl, District 3

Body

Description/Background:

Please review the attached memorandum.

Council Member Nicholl is proposing that the Council begin the process of planning for a new, purpose-built Public Safety Building to serve as the headquarters for the Sandy City  Police Department.

This proposal suggests that the council target the 2027 General Election ballot, utilizing a General Obligation (GO) Bond to finance construction. It recommends that the city aim to begin construction in 2028.

Fiscal Impact:

As written, this proposal would require the passage of a general obligation bond which, if it approved by voters, could generate property tax revenue equivalent to the cost needed to construct the facility.

Further action to be taken:

This is a first reading. Council Member Nicholl is looking for feedback for the council on her proposal.  This may be brought back for a second reading during a future council meeting.

Recommended Action and/or Suggested Motion:
