City Council interviewing Greg Christiansen to serve as a Sandy City Administrative Hearing Officer

Mayor Zoltanski is proposing, for Council Advice and Consent, Greg Christiansen to serve as contracted Administrative Law Judge for Sandy City
On December 12, 2017 the City Council approved a process when considering its advice and consent for mayoral appointments. The process included a background check, a current resume, a formal interview, and a possible closed session as permitted by state law to consider the character, competency, physical, or mental health of an individual. Tonight the Council will hold the formal interview. The City Council Office recommends the Council take the time it deems appropriate to interview the candidate.
Requirements:
Sandy City Section 1-4-8 requires that:
(a) The Mayor, with the consent of the City Council, shall appoint an administrative hearing officer to preside at administrative hearings and issue administrative orders.
(b) A person appointed to serve as an administrative hearing officer shall either be law trained or have significant experience with the requirements and operation of administrative hearing processes. The person shall be free from any bias or conflict of interest that might affect impartiality of decisions.
Sandy City Section 1-4-9 (updated on 10/15/2024 by Ordinance 24-18) defines the powers and duties of the hearing officer.
Further action to be taken:
During a future meeting, following tonight's interview, the council may adopt a resolution providing its consent for the candidate to serve as a Sandy City Administrative Hearing Officer. Tonight, the Council may choose to close the meeting in order to discuss the character, competency, physical or mental health of an individual.
