Agenda Item Title:

Title

Council Member proposal to amend the adopted schedule of Management Studies.

Body

Presenter:

Marci Houseman - Council Member District 4

Body

Description/Background:

In 2023, the City Council established a program requiring periodic third-party management studies of City departments. The purpose of the program is to provide the Council with sufficient information. The proposed amendment would advance the Police Department management study by one year, from FY2028 to FY2027. The Police Department is currently evaluating multiple options to address its long-term facility needs. These decisions could result in significant financial and operational commitments by the City. Conducting the management study earlier would provide the Council, Administration, and Police Department with an independent assessment of the Department’s organizational structure, staffing, operations, and needs while those facility options are still being evaluated.

Fiscal Impact:

To complete the management study of the Police Department one year earlier, an associated acceleration of funding in the amount of $50,000 would need to accompany it.
