First Reading: Council Member Robinson proposing that the City Council direct city staff to draft amendments to the municipal code to both streamline the process, lower the financial barrier to entry, and broaden the locations where brew pubs are permitted within the City

Presenter:
Zach Robinson, Council Member for District 3
Body
Description/Background:
Please review the attached memorandum which addresses the current limitations on brew pub establishments within Sandy City, specifically the restriction of these businesses to primarily the Cairns district. Based on recent research including discussions with City Council and Community Development (CD) staff, I am recommending that the City Council direct CD Staff to draft amendments to the municipal code to both streamline the process, lower the financial barrier to entry, and broaden the locations where brew pubs are permitted within Sandy. I believe that this expansion would likely encourage more of these businesses to locate within Sandy City, potentially enhancing economic development and offering additional amenities to residents.
Fiscal Impact:
While providing initial direction to draft amendments for council consideration will result in a nominal fiscal impact, the amendments themselves may directly impact one or more of the following: The collection of cash bonds on alcohol licenses and/or the amount collected for alcohol business licensing fees by the City.
Further action to be taken:
This is a first reading. This item may return to the Council for formal action during a second reading at a future City Council meeting.
Recommended Action and/or Suggested Motion:
